CME Group said that it plans to launch Bitcoin Cash (BCH) and Uniswap (UNI) crypto futures on October 19, pending regulatory review. Giovanni Vicioso, the exchange’s Global Head of Cryptocurrency Products, said in a press release that the contracts aim to give clients broader, regulated tools to manage digital-asset price risk in its 24/7 marketplace.
The rollout adds standard and Micro contracts for both assets. It extends institutional access to regulated altcoin hedging. It does not, however, confirm that large-scale trading demand already exists.

CME Crypto: What Are the Four New BCH and UNI Contract Sizes?
The planned contracts come in four sizes:
- Bitcoin Cash futures: 250 BCH per contract
- Micro Bitcoin Cash futures: 25 BCH
- Uniswap futures: 10,000 UNI
- Micro Uniswap futures: 1,000 UNI
That range lets traders size both hedges and directional positions more precisely.
Once trading begins, the new listings will bring CME’s single-asset crypto suite to eleven products. The lineup already covers Bitcoin, Ether, XRP, Solana, Cardano, Chainlink, Stellar, Avalanche, and Sui.
In the first half of 2026, CME crypto futures and options averaged 279,800 contracts a day, worth $8.3 billion in notional value. Average open interest reached 264,600 contracts, worth $15.4 billion. According to the company, its 2026 additions of Cardano, Chainlink, Stellar, Avalanche, and Sui have generated more than $1 billion in total notional value year to date.
Those numbers describe CME’s existing crypto business, not BCH or UNI. Separately, Insider Monkey reported that CME posted $1.7 billion in Q2 2026 revenue and $1.0 billion in net income. The exchange also averaged 29.8 million contracts a day, and market-data revenue rose 20% to $238 million. That shows CME can afford to expand. It is not evidence of demand for the new altcoin products.

CME presents BCH and UNI as extensions of its single-asset crypto suite. The goal is to let institutions manage price risk and gain exposure to specific networks within a regulated, centrally cleared market.
Institutions typically use listed futures to hedge spot holdings, run cash-and-carry trades, and take short positions. Similar patterns are already showing up in open interest and hedging activity around other altcoin derivatives. Whether BCH and UNI attract the same behavior will only become clear after October 19.
Regulation adds another layer. The launch still sits within the evolving SEC-CFTC jurisdictional framework, which continues to shape how regulators classify tokens like UNI, the governance asset of a leading decentralized exchange.
Can the October 19 Launch Clear Regulators and Draw Liquidity?
The October 19 date is not guaranteed. CME’s own announcement says the launch depends on regulatory review, which leaves room for delays or changes to the contracts.
Insider Monkey’s bear case warns that a crackdown on DeFi tokens or a longer review could push back expected volumes and raise compliance costs.
The real test for this CME crypto rollout will come after launch. Key signals include open interest, Micro versus standard contract activity, spreads, and block-trade volume.
If institutional adoption lags, thin open interest could leave CME covering infrastructure and risk-model costs across its growing altcoin suite without meaningful fee income. Until participation is confirmed, the October 19 launch is a scalable option for CME crypto, not a proven revenue driver.
