Ethereum’s rally hit a wall this week. After climbing steadily since the summer, Ethereum briefly touched $2,800 before sellers pushed it back. It now trades near $2,641, down roughly 3% on the day.
The latest Ethereum news, however, is less about the pullback and more about what one of crypto’s best-known bulls sees in the bigger picture.
Over the past five years, ETH has swung between highs and lows without ever escaping a broad range. It neared $4,000 in 2024, set fresh records close to $4,900 in 2025, and still found its way back down. Each deep sell-off drew buyers somewhere between $1,400 and $1,600.
Many traders see that history as a sign of a tired market. Fundstrat’s Tom Lee sees the opposite.
TOM LEE NOW HOLDS $16 BILLION OF ETH – AND HE'S STILL BUYING
Bitmine bought another $75.29M of ETH this week, taking its stack to 5,983,940 ETH ($16.40B). 85% of that is staked.
That is 4.9% of the entire ETH supply. They need $327.90M more ETH to hit 5%. pic.twitter.com/w2dYaEX46Q

What Did Tom Lee Just Signal About ETH?
$ETH has a Rainbow Chart too.
For long term investors, the green band is still early.

The signal came in a single word. Lee replied “Agree” to a post from James Easton, co-founder of Alpha Metrics.
Easton’s argument was simple: Ethereum’s long consolidation isn’t dead money. It’s the foundation for a “mega price rally.” In his view, years of range-bound trading have allowed patient buyers to accumulate the kind of base that often precedes a powerful breakout.
Lee didn’t elaborate, but he didn’t need to. His reputation for spotting major turning points in crypto gives even a short reply real weight. For traders, it’s a sign that a leading institutional voice reads ETH’s current structure as strength, not fatigue.
The comment also lands at an interesting moment. Market sentiment has been guarded, with regulatory and security stories filling the headlines. A clean technical thesis offers a welcome alternative, something traders can check against the chart rather than the news cycle.

The daily chart backs up part of Lee’s optimism. ETH has bounced sharply from its June lows near $1,550, reclaiming ground it lost earlier in the year.
Price now holds above both the 50-day and 200-day exponential moving averages. The 50-day EMA, near $2,380, has also moved above the 200-day, near $2,240. That crossover is widely watched as an early signal that the trend may be turning.
Still, the rally has hit its first serious obstacle. The $2,800 zone served as support for long stretches of 2024 and 2025. After ETH broke below it in early 2026, the level flipped into resistance, and this week’s rejection confirms sellers are still active there.
If buyers clear it, $3,000 becomes the next natural target. Above that, $3,375 stands out as the major ceiling, a level that halted several rallies and capped the January bounce.
Support is layered below. The first zone sits near $2,395, lining up with the 50-day EMA. Deeper down, the 200-day EMA and the $2,140 level mark the floor of the current uptrend.
Is This Ethereum News a Breakout Signal or a Pause?
Lee’s endorsement sets a bullish tone, but the price still has to confirm it. After such a fast move off the lows, ETH can go several ways from here.
- Bull case: A daily close above $2,800 would put $3,000 firmly in play. Breaking through $3,375 afterward would give the strongest confirmation that the long consolidation is finally resolving higher.
- Base case: ETH drifts sideways between roughly $2,400 and $2,800, cooling off while traders wait for a fresh catalyst. That kind of pause would keep the broader recovery intact.
- Bear case: A drop below $2,395 and the 50-day EMA would shift momentum back to sellers. A retest of the 200-day EMA or $2,140 would delay any breakout and challenge the bullish thesis.
For now, Ethereum news will likely keep circling back to $2,800. Whether ETH can turn that ceiling into a floor will decide if Lee’s launchpad is ready for liftoff.
