La guerre entre Bitcoin Core<\/strong> et Bitcoin Knots<\/strong> fait rage. Dans des messages divulgu\u00e9s provenant de Luke Dashjr<\/strong>, on d\u00e9couvre que la situation pourrait avoir d\u00e9g\u00e9n\u00e9r\u00e9 et se dirige vers un point de non-retour<\/strong>. Les messages obtenus par The Rage<\/strong> font \u00e9tat d\u2019un plan de hard fork du Bitcoin.<\/p>\n

Le hard fork aurait pour but de changer le consensus de la blockchain Bitcoin et de permettre \u00e0 un comit\u00e9 de modifier les donn\u00e9es non mon\u00e9taires \u00e0 posteriori. En somme, une porte ouverte \u00e0 tous types de d\u00e9rive et la fin de l\u2019ind\u00e9pendance r\u00e9elle du Bitcoin<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Core vs Knots, un d\u00e9bat autour des donn\u00e9es non-mon\u00e9taires<\/span><\/h2>\n

Dans l\u2019article publi\u00e9 par The Rage<\/a>, il appara\u00eet que le d\u00e9bat entre Core et Knots a atteint de nouveaux extr\u00eames. Pour rappel, Bitcoin Core et Bitcoin Knots sont deux logiciels clients qui permettent d\u2019op\u00e9rer des n\u0153uds de la blockchain Bitcoin.<\/p>\n

Bitcoin Core est le logiciel client de r\u00e9f\u00e9rence. Et, il y a quelques mois, il a autoris\u00e9 l\u2019accroissement de l\u2019allocation de taille d\u2019OP_RETURN<\/a>. Ceci permet d\u2019envoyer des donn\u00e9es non-mon\u00e9taires plus facilement sur la blockchain. Le raisonnement \u00e9tait qu\u2019avec cette allocation de taille plus grande, les spammeurs n\u2019auraient pas recours \u00e0 des m\u00e9thodes plus nocives pour la blockchain<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

La solution n\u2019a pas \u00e9t\u00e9 du go\u00fbt de nombreux contributeurs du Bitcoin. Knots est n\u00e9 de ce schisme. Pour le camp de Knots, il faut plut\u00f4t bannir toute forme de donn\u00e9es non-mon\u00e9taires<\/strong>. Pour ce faire, Bitcoin Knots adopte des filtres rigoureux.<\/p>\n

Une solution radicale qui va \u00e0 l\u2019encontre de la philosophie du Bitcoin<\/span><\/h2>\n

Le n\u0153ud du probl\u00e8me pour les promoteurs de Knots, c\u2019est que les filtres sont inefficaces si tous les n\u0153uds Bitcoin n\u2019adoptent pas le m\u00eame client<\/strong>. Et pour l\u2019instant, nous sommes encore loin d\u2019en \u00eatre arriv\u00e9s l\u00e0.<\/p>\n

Dans des messages qui ont fuit\u00e9, il semblerait que Luke Dashjr<\/a> pr\u00e9parerait un hard fork du Bitcoin<\/strong>. Ce hard fork impl\u00e9menterait un comit\u00e9 de confiance<\/strong>. Autrement dit, des personnes habilit\u00e9es \u00e0 \u00e9valuer les transactions pour supprimer r\u00e9troactivement les donn\u00e9es qui sont jug\u00e9es inacceptables<\/strong> sur la blockchain.<\/p>\n

D\u2019entr\u00e9e de jeu, une telle proposition reviendrait \u00e0 transformer le Bitcoin en blockchain sous permission<\/strong>. Tout le contraire de l\u2019id\u00e9al qui a fait le succ\u00e8s du Bitcoin et qui lui conf\u00e8re sa r\u00e9sistance face \u00e0 la censure.<\/p>\n

D\u2019autre part, les promoteurs de Knots envisageraient d\u2019utiliser un arsenal l\u00e9gal pour militer en faveur des sanctions contre les donn\u00e9es illicites sur la blockchain<\/strong>. Bien que ce soit une d\u00e9marche louable et que personne ne souhaite voir du contenu r\u00e9pr\u00e9hensible sur le r\u00e9seau, c\u2019est une porte ouverte \u00e0 la censure<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Ceci pourrait potentiellement permettre aux forces de l\u2019ordre et aux gouvernements de demander la suppression de donn\u00e9es qu\u2019ils jugent probl\u00e9matiques. Et dans le m\u00eame temps, ceci pourrait conduire \u00e0 des poursuites judiciaires contre les personnes qui op\u00e8rent des n\u0153uds non conformes<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Un hard fork du Bitcoin est-il possible dans ce contexte ?<\/span><\/h2>\n

Pour un hard fork, il est imp\u00e9ratif que la majorit\u00e9 du hashrate du Bitcoin<\/a> l\u2019approuve. Pour l\u2019instant, ce n\u2019est pas encore le cas et le camp de Knots en est parfaitement conscient. D\u2019apr\u00e8s les r\u00e9v\u00e9lations des messages, ils envisageraient d\u2019\u00e9mettre des lettres publiques pour fustiger la pr\u00e9sence de contenu illicite sur la blockchain et invoquer la responsabilit\u00e9 <\/strong>l\u00e9gale des tenants de n\u0153uds<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Il serait pr\u00e9vu que lesdites lettres proviennent de cabinets d\u2019avocats. L\u2019objectif \u00e9tait de cr\u00e9er de la peur, de l\u2019incertitude et du doute. En somme, installer un climat d\u2019anxi\u00e9t\u00e9 en faisant planer la responsabilit\u00e9 <\/strong>l\u00e9gale des pools de minage<\/strong> pour le contenu distribu\u00e9 sur la blockchain.<\/p>\n

Il est improbable qu\u2019une telle strat\u00e9gie porte des fruits dans l\u2019imm\u00e9diat. Mais diverses voix se sont d\u00e9j\u00e0 \u00e9lev\u00e9es<\/a> pour souligner les dangers d\u2019une telle approche. Notamment, parce que ce serait une pente glissante vers une v\u00e9ritable censure par les gouvernements<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

En conclusion, la solution propos\u00e9e par Knots est radicale et ouvrirait la voie \u00e0 des d\u00e9rives irr\u00e9versibles.
